1. Who operates the site

The Gay Rendez-Vous site is operated by True Vid Inc., whose address is [to complete: postal address of the operator, in Québec]. To contact us, see the Contact page.

2. Who may sign up

  • You must be at least 18 years old. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up, and we refuse the account if it shows that you are a minor. We do not ask for identification: you declare your age honestly.
  • The information you provide must be accurate, especially your age.
  • An account is personal: one person, one account. You may not transfer or share it.

An account created by a minor, or on behalf of a minor, is closed as soon as we find out.

3. Your account

  • You must give us an email address that you control: we send a confirmation link to it, and you cannot sign in until you have opened that link.
  • Choose a password of at least 10 characters and keep it to yourself. You are responsible for what is done with your account.
  • If you believe someone else has access to your account, change your password and use “Sign out of all devices” in My account.
  • Your username must not impersonate another person or be offensive.

4. Rules of conduct

On the site, you agree not to:

  • harass, threaten or intimidate anyone, or make hateful remarks toward anyone;
  • pretend to be another person, or create a fake profile;
  • post or share illegal content, or content that shows a person without their consent;
  • post a photo or personal information about another person without their agreement;
  • send advertising, spam or commercial solicitations, or ask other members for money;
  • use a robot or automated tool to browse the site, copy profiles or send messages in bulk;
  • get around the site’s security measures, a block or a sanction, for example by creating a new account after a suspension;
  • use the site if you are under 18 years old.

5. Your content and photos

You keep the rights to what you post (profile, photos, messages). So that the site can work, you authorize us, free of charge and for as long as your account exists, to host this content, to process it (for example to resize a photo, convert it and remove its metadata) and to show it to other members according to your settings. This authorization serves no other purpose.

  • You guarantee that you have the right to post this content: you are the person in the photo, or you have their agreement.
  • Your photos are visible as soon as you upload them; the moderation team reviews them afterwards. A photo may be removed, with or without an explanation.
  • Sexually explicit content is allowed only in the albums of the adult section. Elsewhere, the rule is as follows: [to complete: rule on non-explicit nudity in standard photos (outside the adult section)]
  • You choose who sees your photos, album by album, and you may delete them at any time. See the privacy policy.

6. Adult section

The adult section is optional and separate from the rest of the site: it has its own profile, its own albums and its own search. You enter it only by giving your express consent, on a separate page, and only members who have also activated it see what you post there. You may withdraw your consent at any time from My account; everything you have posted there is then hidden immediately.

In addition to the rules of conduct, in the adult section you agree that:

  • your exchanges and meetings take place between consenting adults;
  • nothing you post or send (photo, text, message, role-play or staging) depicts or suggests a person under 18 years old. Such content is removed, the account is suspended and the situation is reported to the authorities;
  • every photo you upload shows only you, or adults who have consented to its publication here. You attest to this with each upload. Sharing an intimate image of a person without their consent is a criminal offence;
  • explicit content stays in the adult section.

Photos in the adult section are also reviewed after they are uploaded. Every profile and every photo in the section can be reported; reports that concern a minor or content shared without consent are handled first, and the photo concerned is hidden as soon as it is reported. Where the law requires it, a photo may be retained for the authorities: it is then no longer visible and can no longer be modified or deleted.

7. Events

You may propose an LGBTQ+ event on the Events page. By proposing it, you confirm that you wrote it or have the right to publish it, and that what it announces is accurate. Each proposal is reviewed by the moderation team before it is published; we may refuse or remove it, with or without an explanation. A published event is visible to everyone, including visitors who are not signed in, but it never shows your username. You may edit it (it is then reviewed again) or cancel it.

The page also features events taken from public sources, with a link to each one. We do not guarantee that they will take place as announced: check with the organizer. If you organize an event listed here and want it corrected or removed, write to us at [to complete: contact email address (CONTACT_EMAIL variable)].

8. Forum

The forum is public to read: messages in public categories can be read by anyone, member or not, and can be picked up by search engines such as Google. Only a few categories are reserved for signed-in members. Only members whose profile is published can write in it.

  • Your username is shown with each of your messages. A signed-out visitor sees neither your profile photo nor your profile, and does not see the photos attached to messages either; those are visible to signed-in members only.
  • The rules of conduct above apply. In addition, no nudity and no sexual content is allowed in the forum, text and photos included, because it is public. Each message can carry up to 4 photos; with every upload you confirm that you are the only person visible, or that everyone visible has agreed.
  • You can edit or delete your messages for 24 hours. After that, write to us from the Contact page. A deleted message is no longer displayed; search engines may take some time to update their results.
  • The moderation team can edit, hide, move, lock or delete a message or a topic, and exclude a member from the forum, with or without notice. You can report any message.
  • If you delete your account, your messages stay in the discussion but are no longer linked to your username. See the privacy policy.

9. Reports, blocking and moderation

You may block a member and report them from their profile. You may also report a specific message you received, from the conversation: the moderation team then reads that message, and only that one, never the rest of the conversation. An event may also be reported. A blocked member can no longer see you or write to you, and you no longer see them. The moderation team reviews reports.

To enforce these terms, the moderation team may remove a photo, suspend an account (open sessions are then closed) or close it, including without notice where the safety of members requires it. These decisions are recorded in an internal log. If you believe a decision is wrong, write to us at the address on the Contact page.

We have no obligation to monitor the content posted by members. Making an abusive or repeated report is itself a breach of the rules of conduct.

10. Messaging

Your messages are meant for the people you write to. Do not share their content without the agreement of the other person. To limit abuse, the number of messages and new conversations you may send is capped.

11. Meeting people and safety

Gay Rendez-Vous connects people; we are not party to your exchanges or your meetings. We do not verify the identity or the background of members: we only confirm that an email address works. Be careful:

  • get to know each other by message before you meet;
  • meet in a public place and let a trusted person know;
  • never send money or share banking information;
  • report any worrying behaviour with the “Report” button on the profile or, for a specific message, under that message.

In case of immediate danger, call 911.

12. Free service and availability

The site is offered free of charge and we do not process any payments. It is provided “as is”: we do our best to keep it accessible and secure, but we cannot guarantee that it will work without interruption or error, and we may change or discontinue it, in particular for maintenance.

13. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for the behaviour of members, for their content, or for damage that results from your exchanges or meetings with them. Nothing in these terms limits a liability that cannot be limited by law, in particular in the case of gross or intentional fault or of bodily or moral injury.

14. Closing your account

You may leave the site at any time, from My account:

  • Deactivate hides your profile without erasing anything; you find it as it was when you sign in again.
  • Delete hides your profile immediately, then permanently erases your data after 30 days. Until then, you can restore your account by signing in again. The details are in the privacy policy.

For our part, we may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms. A suspension immediately ends the open sessions.

15. Changes to these terms

We may amend these terms. The date of the last update appears at the top of the page. If a change affects you significantly, we will inform you before it takes effect. Continuing to use the site after that date means that you accept the changes; if you disagree, you may close your account.

16. Governing law and language

These terms are governed by the laws of Québec and the federal laws of Canada that apply in Québec. Any dispute falls under the courts of Québec, in the judicial district of [to complete: Québec judicial district], subject to the rights that the law grants you as a consumer.

The parties have expressly required that these terms be drafted in French.
